1,500 registered voters is all it takes to block the City’s debt hole from getting deeper!! (The City is over $30million in debt and wants to Borrow more money.
The Scoop:
The City has no current financial statement but the Parks & Rec Director and the Regime Reminders (none of whom are financially literate) want the City to Borrow $3 Million. The last available financial statements from 2020 show Columbus had a record high amount of over $30 million (up from only $8 million in 2010) in irresponsibly spent debt.
The Councilperson from Ward 1 said, she doesn’t know what else you can do if you need money other than winning the lottery or borrowing it. How about Earning it?
There are about 15,000 registered voters and about 2,500 in each ward. This is achievable!
If the 1,500 protest notifications do not get filed by Thursday, JULY 13, (the City does not work on Fridays) members of the Columbus City Council will burden the children of the City (if they don’t leave) with repaying the debts of their grandparents.
The City advertised this in The Packet and the Mayor admited it was a bit “convoluted.” The Dispatch reached out to two attorneys who benefit financially from the City borrowing more money and they (not surprisingly) said an email doesn’t count. But Columbus Matters reached out to an attorney, with no vested interested and got another opinion. So send those emails in!
